Dysautonomia & POTS
Dysautonomia can affect automatic body functions such as heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, digestion and the body’s response to being upright.
Explore what happens when you stand, move, get hot, eat, think or try to get through an ordinary day.

A task can be harder because of how upright it is.
Showering, cooking, waiting in a queue or standing at a
bench may use substantially more physiological capacity than
the same amount of time spent sitting or lying down.
Looking at posture, heat, duration and recovery can sometimes explain why two apparently similar activities feel very different.

Dysautonomia is broader than POTS
Dysautonomia is an umbrella term for problems involving the autonomic nervous system. POTS is one form of autonomic disorder characterised by symptoms when upright together with an abnormal increase in heart rate on standing. Similar symptoms can have other causes, so assessment matters.
