What is executive function?
Executive functions are the mental processes that help us organise behaviour towards a goal. They include starting, planning, prioritising, holding information in mind, shifting attention, monitoring progress and stopping. These skills can become harder when a person is tired, overloaded, stressed, unwell or trying to manage too many demands at once.
